  • Dim Sum King

9160 Bellaire Blvd. Outer Loop - SW

    713-270-6788

While some may lament its nontraditional choice to serve dim sum all day long, that's exactly the aspect of Dim Sum King we love most. Six days a week (it's closed on Tuesdays), you can get dim sum for brunch, lunch or dinner - and all of it good. There are no carts here, either; just a very cozy room with an à la carte menu. It's good for dim sum neophytes, too, as helpful photos of all the dishes and their English translations are listed throughout the menu. Turnip cakes and beef balls are favorites, but save room for fried bread at dessert.

  • HK Dim Sum

9889 Bellaire Blvd. Outer Loop - SW

    713-777-7029

Dim sum is the draw here, especially on weekdays when few other dim sum restaurants are open, but the restaurant also serves Malaysian dishes. The dim sum is excellent; however, the odoriferous Malaysian dishes are not for everyone's palates. But if you are an adventurous diner, take advantage of the rare opportunity to order a little of everything HK Dim Sum has to offer.

  • Kim Son Restaurant

    2001 Jefferson East End

    713-222-2461

Since 1982, after she fled her first restaurant in Vinh Long, Vietnam, Mama La has been sharing authentic Vietnamese food with Houstonians. The menu is as massive as the restaurant itself, shadowing the southeast side of downtown. A sumptuous interior is as comfortable as the food itself. The charbroiled Vietnamese fajitas are a fusion of both the old and new worlds, and the Vietnamese crepes, garlic butter fried shrimp and sugarcane shrimp are not to be missed. You will be hard-pressed to try any dish here that you won't enjoy.

  • Yauatcha

The Galleria, 5045 Westheimer Rd Galleria

    713-357-7588

In March 2017, Hakkasan Hospitality Group’s Yauatcha arrived in Houston with much fanfare. One of only two in the United States and the eighth location in the world, the Michelin-starred restaurant is indeed exclusive and rare. The interior of the upscale Chinese eatery is aesthetically pleasing, service is impeccable and most of the food is dainty and delicious, with an exquisite selection of petite pastries and sweet creations. Skip the traditional har gau and shui mai, and try the more unique offerings, like the duck pumpkin puff and crispy soft shell crab with almonds from executive chef Ho Chee Boon.
