  • The Gorgeous Gael

    5555 Morningside Dr. Kirby-West U

    832-667-8321

Formerly known as Brian O'Neill's, this Rice Village Irish bar got a makeover in 2014 and a new name in the Gorgeous Gael; its new namesake is Jack Doyle, an Irish immigrant who became famous as a British heavyweight boxer, Hollywood actor and tenor. The makeover included removing walls to provide more space, adding a new back bar and kitchen, and removing the old trellis from the patio to open it up and provide more space. The owners also put in lighter wood and made the place brighter than the average Irish pub, making it more modern while retaining the Irish friendliness and charm. Gorgeous Gael has an impressive collection of Irish whiskeys and domestic/craft beers, and plans on expanding their new menu which includes burgers and slow-cooked wings. Come check out the live music here on Friday nights, and don't miss the big annual St. Patrick's Day party held here.

  • Pimlico Irish Pub

    810 Waugh Dr. River Oaks

    832-517-4572

Pimlico may be one of the most authentic Irish bars in Houston. In fact, the owner himself is from Dublin, where his father owned a bar of the same moniker in the '60s through the '70s; it took its name from the street it was located on, just a few blocks from the Guinness beer brewery. Old bookkeeping invoices and voided checks from that bar are on display here, as well as handfuls of other authentic items from Ireland. The owner boasts that he serves the best pint of Guinness in town, and who are we to argue? Paying tribute to the world-renowned Irish beer, a fence outside has been branded with the famous Guinness logo, and Guinness posters and memorabilia adorn the walls and shelves. Other beers from Ireland and the world are also available on tap, and in bottles and cans. Besides the full bar, a line of the finest Irish Whiskeys is also available; a shot of Midleton goes for $34. You can also get some authentic Irish bar snacks like Smiths scampi fries and Tayto cheese & onion potato chips, among others, not available anywhere else in Houston. A two-story patio with a view is located out front; at 4 p.m. Sundays, local musicians show up to play authentic Irish music inside.
