Alamo Beer Company introduced ALAMO Golden Ale in October 2003. Since then, it has continued to grow locally and has quickly expanded to West Texas, South Texas, Houston, Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth. In March of 2015, Alamo Beer Company, opened its brewery, beer hall and beer garden in San Antonio’s east downtown. Using traditional German brewing methods the brewery produces an ALAMO Pilsner, ALAMO Amber Lager, ALAMO German Pale Ale, ALAMO Golden Ale and seasonal varieties. Brews Brothers is the bar in Galveston to stop by if you love craft beers; the list of available selections is conveniently displayed on the flatscreen TV behind the bar. In addition to the beers from various breweries, Brews Brothers has a license to brew themselves and they have a new beer flavor available every Friday; Cranberry Cobbler was just out the week we visited. Brews also has plans to sell small batches of their beers throughout the country in the near future. Equal care is taken in the preparation of the food; the in-house burgers are made with Black Angus beef obtained from a small farm north of College Station, for example. Wine and cigars are sold here as well, and the bar is big with soccer fans who enjoy watching matches on the projection-screen TV.

Phyllis and Tim Smith established French Country Wines in 2006 and provide the Houston community with affordable wines from small, family-owned vineyards in France. It's easy to miss this small shop off of Kirby, but look for the giant armadillo outside Armadillo Palace and you'll find your way to French Country Wines on an often overlooked side street. The Smith's host weekly Wednesday-night wine tastings, as well as Saturday afternoon/evening tastings; each one is paired with cheeses from Houston Dairymaids.
