  • Bernie's Burger Bus

    No address listed Heights

It may look like a school bus, but it's a lean, mean, burger-grilling machine. Winner of the 2012 Houston Press Burger Bracket, Bernie's Burger Bus is the true definition of gourmet food truck, utilizing the freshest ingredients — fresh-ground Black Angus beef, freshly made baked buns, and homemade condiments — to make one of the juiciest, tastiest burgers you'll ever have the pleasure of eating. The school-themed menu features the traditional American burger "The Principal"; the double-patty, Texas-cheddar topped "The Bully"; and the famous "Study Hall" burger, topped with barbecue sauce and crispy-seared, slow-braised pork belly.

  • Flip 'n Patties

    5110 Washington Downtown/ Midtown

This mobile food truck, run by two cousins, travels all over town to share their spin on top-notch Filipino street food. Stop by for juicy burgers served inside light and fluffy steamed buns, spiced pork or chicken siopao, and their mayo-smothered, sesame-and-cilantro-topped FnP Mayo-Fries, which are easily some of the best fries in the city. Check out the truck's schedule on their website or follow them on Twitter (@FlipnPatties) to see where they'll be parked for the day.

  • H-Town StrEATS

No address listed Outer Loop - SW

It's hard to believe that food coming off a truck can be as inventive, or can taste as good as, what you get at H-town Streats. But then again, it's not every food truck that has trained chefs working at the helm. On any given day, you'll find Jason Hill and/or Matt Opaleski manning the truck, which means that crawfish taco with Tabasco aioli is gonna taste like a lot more than the $3 you're paying to eat it. In fact, whether it's their infamous boudin balls with creole mustard, their fried avocado taco with cilantro slaw, their burger with sautéed mushrooms and cheese, or their watermelon agua fresca, pretty much everything that you try at this truly gourmet food truck is going to be a winner. The menu changes often, too, so no need to worry about eating the same old, same old. Even if you followed the truck around like a die-hard disciple, the menu is extensive enough that you'd still be able to enjoy a different meal every day. Food sells out quickly, so try to visit them at the beginning of service.

  • Melange Creperie

    403 Westheimer Montrose

    832-724-9464

Melange is street food in a city not known for that style of dining - combine that with quality ingredients and attention to detail, and it's easy to see why it's become so popular so quickly. Every morning, the affable and talkative Sean (this is a one-man operation) picks up some fresh ingredients, draws the day's menu on a chalkboard and sets up shop in the parking lot of Mango's bar and music venue. Standards like banana and Nutella, and ham and cheese are almost always available, and daily specials often include creative crepes like fig and goat cheese, and falafel. Each crepe is made to order, so the line can move slow - bring water if it's hot out, or stop by the taco truck next door for a watermelon water.

  • Pi Pizza Truck

    No address listed Montrose

    713-478-0374

You can get two entirely different kinds of slices at the rolling pizza place that's usually camped in front of Catbird's or Jackson's Watering Hole: drunk food of the highest order or impeccably crafted gourmet pizza. Or, if you're packing a big appetite, both. The former category includes slices topped with chili-cheese Fritos, barbecue sauce, mac 'n' cheese and spicy nacho cheese Doritos (and should you be more than just drunk, get the 420 Slice). The latter category includes chef/owner Anthony Calleo's creations such as The Panty Dropper, which features grilled radicchio and fennel, gorgonzola, apples and shallots in a honey-balsamic glaze.
