  • The Men's Club of Houston

    3303 Sage Galleria

    713-629-7900

You don't go to the Men's Club for cheap drinks; you go for the cheap food (and the girls, of course). Avoid the greasy buffets and order from the menu, where the food is of slightly better quality. Couples' night on Saturdays gets you two appetizers, two entrées and a dessert for only $25, and a decent pub-style burger is only $9 with a huge mound of fries on the side. Tuesdays, the entire menu is half-price all day. For drinks, stick with bottled beer.

Don't be put off by all the kids and seniors eating here. This popular Spring Branch location of the modest restaurant chain is the ne plus ultra of salad-and-soup buffets. Nothing in the salad line ever looks the least bit wilted or desiccated, and the soups taste like a fantasy mom's finest, with at least one vegetarian selection always available. The made-to-order pasta bar is only passable, but the bakery offers a delightful variety of bread, rolls and muffins. Baked potatoes of a manageable size and even baked sweet potatoes are available for those fearless of carbohydrates.

  • Todai Japanese Restaurant

7620 Katy Outer Loop - NW

    713-682-0009

There are 40 kinds of sushi on display at Todai, the all-you-can-eat Japanese seafood buffet restaurant in the teen-friendly Marq*E Entertainment Center. Of course, sushi that has been sitting out on a buffet line isn't as fresh and shiny as the kind you get at a good sushi bar, but some of it is pretty good. And when they have lobster and king crab legs on the buffet line, it's an incredible bargain.

A fruit bar, salad makings, a soup station and a seafood bar overflowing with oysters on the half shell, shrimp, king crab legs and spicy crawfish get your engine revved. Next, choose from more than a dozen types of sushi before ambling over to the two long buffet carts continuously refilled with more than 30 entrées.
